Manulife: Walking for Inle
After the 2025 earthquake affected communities in Shan State, Manulife Myanmar wanted its wellness initiative to help. Ruder Finn Era relaunched the Manulife Wellness Challenge with a social purpose: for every step participants walked, Manulife contributed to earthquake recovery in Inle. The challenge generated 3.32 million impressions, 2.28 million reach and 3,202 participants.
The challenge
As a life insurer that positions itself around wellness and longevity, Manulife wanted to respond to the earthquake that hit Shan State in a way that was consistent with who it is. A donation announcement alone would have been forgettable and would have asked nothing of the public. The brand needed a mechanism that engaged Myanmar people in the recovery effort, kept its health message alive and delivered tangible support to families in Inle.
Our solution
Ruder Finn Era brought the Manulife Wellness Challenge back with a new purpose. Participants were invited to stay active through fun daily walking goals, and every step they logged translated into a contribution from Manulife Myanmar to earthquake recovery in Inle, turning personal wellness into collective impact.
The link between effort and outcome gave people a reason to keep walking and to recruit friends, while proceeds went towards rebuilding homes in Inle. The campaign strengthened health habits, built community spirit and produced measurable support for the affected area. Ruder Finn Era managed the campaign, the communications plan and visual development.
The results
More than three times as many people joined as in the earlier challenge: 3,202 participants, with 3.32 million impressions and 2.28 million reach.
