Mazda: Affordable Luxury on Facebook

Mazda's distributor in Myanmar asked Ruder Finn Era to build and improve the brand's Facebook presence with a full-service solution. A content strategy positioning Mazda as affordable luxury, using local insights, engagement pillars, GIF visuals and contests, grew the page from 49,000 to more than 100,000 fans without fan acquisition advertising.

The challenge

Myanmar's car market was opening up and Japanese brands were competing for a new class of urban buyers. Mazda's Facebook page was the brand's main public face, but it was neither growing nor driving the premium image the brand wanted.

Mazda needed a full-service solution that would build the page's audience and, more importantly, establish a clear position: luxury that is within reach.

Our solution

Ruder Finn Era created a content strategy designed to drive the positioning of affordable luxury in Myanmar, using local insights about what aspiration looks like for the target buyer rather than global brand assets alone.

The strategy was organised around engagement pillars and delivered with GIF visuals and contests that gave people reasons to interact. Posts were planned around the pillars rather than around dealership promotions alone, and the contests gave existing fans a reason to share the page, which is how the audience doubled without acquisition advertising.
