Cetaphil: Making Global Skincare Local in Cambodia

Cetaphil entered Cambodia's saturated skincare market, where Korean brands dominate and budget-conscious shoppers favour local online options. Ruder Finn Era's retainer tied the brand's benefits to Cambodia's climate and weather through relatable creative, media buying and community management, reaching 5M people, generating 500K engagements and adding 60 more orders a month.

The challenge

Cetaphil's global reputation counted for little on arrival in Cambodia. The skincare market is saturated, Korean brands dominate the conversation and budget-conscious consumers prefer cheaper local options sold online. A premium, dermatologist-led brand needed a reason to be chosen.

The brand had to build awareness, position itself as premium yet relevant, and convert that into orders in a market with strong existing habits.

Our solution

Ruder Finn Era's insight was to root the brand in the local context rather than its global heritage. Messaging linked Cetaphil's benefits to Cambodia's environmental and weather conditions, heat, humidity and pollution, so the product's gentle, protective claims became relatable answers to everyday skin problems.

Appealing creative gave the key messages visual cut-through and positioned the brand as premium and aligned with the target audience's values. Media buying and community management sustained the conversation across the year, turning awareness into engagement and engagement into orders.
