Breast Cancer Screening Advocacy with Healthy Cambodia
To raise awareness of early breast cancer screening among Cambodian women, Ruder Finn Era partnered with Healthy Cambodia on a patient advocacy initiative for a confidential client, centred on a video interview with survivor and author Sokchamroeun. Amplified organically, the film reached 155k video views and 120k engagements and sparked a national conversation about early detection.
The challenge
Many Cambodian women delay or avoid regular breast cancer check-ups, and late diagnosis costs lives that early screening could save. Public health messaging on the subject had struggled to move beyond clinical facts to something women would act on.
The initiative needed to raise awareness nationwide about the life-saving importance of early screening, with a story credible enough to change behaviour and a distribution model that did not depend on paid media.
Our solution
Ruder Finn Era's insight was that survivability, not fear, would move women to act. Partnering with Healthy Cambodia, the team launched a patient advocacy initiative built around an emotional video interview with Sokchamroeun, a breast cancer survivor and author of The Scars.
Her raw account was paired with expert insight so the film explained both why early detection matters and what it involves. Released and amplified entirely organically, the story travelled through shares and conversation rather than advertising, sparking a national discussion around early detection and survivability.
