Too Much of a Good Thing
Too Much of a Good Thing was a youth moderation campaign in Cambodia for a confidential client, developed by Ruder Finn Era to start a national conversation about balance in alcohol consumption. The English idiom was localised into Khmer and carried by lifestyle KOLs in beauty, sport and entrepreneurship, reframing moderation as a lifestyle choice and generating widespread youth engagement.
The challenge
Young Cambodians face aggressive alcohol marketing, no legal drinking age and no education on responsible drinking. Conventional health warnings tend to be ignored by exactly the audience they target, so the campaign needed to start a national conversation on balance and moderation without sounding like one.
The message had to feel like it belonged to young people themselves, in their language and on their platforms.
Our solution
Ruder Finn Era localised the English idiom Too Much of a Good Thing into Khmer, creating a conversational, relatable phrase that made moderation sound like common sense rather than a rule.
The team partnered with credible lifestyle KOLs across beauty, sport and entrepreneurship, whose followers were the campaign's audience, and integrated moderation messaging naturally into their own content. By connecting through people young Cambodians already trusted, the campaign reached them without preaching, and media relations gave the conversation a public dimension beyond social feeds.
The results
The campaign reframed moderation as a lifestyle choice and sparked widespread engagement among Cambodian youth.
